While the first was terrible, it was at the very least filled to the brim with terrible yet somewhat entertaining action between humans and titans. In this sequel, the first half or so is spent solely on human combat and in fighting between the human factions. I'm not against an arc like this, but Attack on Titan has such a terrible world and terrible characters that it just isn't anything except painfully wasn't a fan of the anime but it at least had a little more visual flair and effort put into it than this piece of garbage. Whether you are fan of the series or not, this movie and its predecessor are not worth it and in fact painfully bad. Bumpy start thanks to its anime-style penchant for excessive recapitulation, showing us things we've already seen and probably understand well enough when coming into a sequel, but that little scrapheap culminates with a fun little action/effects sequence and a title 20 minutes in. BOOM, it's Titanic Attackings to the World on then... 2015 A Jukebox Odyssey? I don't understand what's happening, here. This wasn't in the show, was it? I mean, that's fine? I'm just feeling a little lost, here, is all. In fact, this starts to feel like it desperately wants to explain itself after the cliffhanger ending of the first part — so desperately that it momentarily loses whatever grip on a semblance of reality it… Attack on Titan II ends with a girl's tummy rumbling, I can only assume because she has the shits - which is basically how I feel after watching it. Quickie ReviewPicking up after the events of part 1, part 2 End of the World is exactly like the second half of season 1 of the anime, with the development of Eren being revealed to be a Titan shifter and the government trying to decide whether or not to use him and his newly discovered abilities to take down other Titans in order to turn the tide in the ongoing war between man and Titan. Aside from a couple of excisions in the source material's plotline, this definitely was a satisfying movie to watch as an AoT fan. There are times when a few moments tend to drag on a little too long but ultimately, all the "man versus… Unfortunately the second and final part of the live action adaptation of Attack on Titan takes us straight into lull territory, focusing instead on human conflict instead of the awesome titans. All the cool dread of the first part is gone. The final half hour does get a little better with a couple of cool fight sequences and it was then I realized I was watching a tokusatsu. Ultraman Titan. And I can't hate that. I'll just settle with stating that this is an inferior followup. But still a fairly fun one. Granted I haven’t seen AOT for years and I don’t think I ever finished the anime so I’m not having the visceral bad reaction of someone who loved this manga or anime, but I thought these were fun!! Very splatterpunk, the titans are somehow even more weird and disturbing in this, and this one has skeeter davis - end of the world playing on a jukebox and that song is my weakness so there you go. why do i do this to myselfi hate that the only evidence i have of sasha and mikasa being canon girlfriends comes from the live-action films As usual Higuchi never seems to stop improving. Overall a better movie than the first. Superior pacing and character dynamic, battling an evil government. The effects, particularly the blending of practical and CGI noticeably better than the much horror and gruesomeness as the first but instead focusing on the ideological conflict between two brothers. The influence of Ishiro Honda's 1966 masterpiece The War of the Gargantuas most evident here. Granted I wish they had emphasized the fact that Eren and Shikishima are brothers as it's more of a background fact we the audience are aware of but it's never truly addressed by the characters. Still, the battle between Titan!Eren and Titan!Shikishima was classic kaiju/tokusatsu goodness that the world needs more of. Shikishima's Titan form in terms of design was outstanding. Given the teaser at the end of the credits I think it's shame there wasn't a third part, but the primary conflict is resolved in a satisfactory way. The last 30 minutes was bonkers. It was like watching a bloody, R’ rated Power Rangers episode. An astounding improvement over the first live-action film. Whereas the first one felt visually cheap and bogged down by boring set-up, this looks way more professional, way more expressive, exhibits more confident plotting that deviates from the original manga/anime, and features some absolutely relentless, propulsive pacing. Nothing spectacular, but it was one of the most purely entertaining moviegoing experiences I had this year. Humans are the real monsters!! We live in a society!!! etc etcWow literally everything I liked about the first movie is gone in the sequel lmao but do not think for a second that makes it ok to disregard the first movie just bc it is a live-action adaptation of an anime series!!! Don't do that!!!! Wake up sheeple!!!!!!!!! Holy shit was this an improvement from the first live action film in every regard!!! Like there was more confidence behind the camera, the story also took some major risks that I highly respect and the special effects looked much better. For me what worked for this was the story in this installment. It doesn’t follow the source material and instead went with a different route which is always a nice thing to see cause with a turn into the unpredictable I think things become more fun. They developed the characters here to be more than one dimensional too which was another surprising factor to me to see. Sometimes all you need in cinema is to see two cute girls…
